Perfect Love Casts out Fear
In this modern age, individuals are anxious and unsettled. Based on what’s transmitted on television and social media, fear grips the hearts of many. You already know that turmoil and suspicion undermine the lives of multitudes. This shouldn’t be so.
Americans live in an ever-plugged-in world where every disaster is presented in vivid video or sound bites. What formerly looked far away, appears closer than ever.
It’s tough to ignore the ugliness of the world around us. As believers, we’re commissioned to lift the burdens of others and intercede for peace around the world. No one who loves Jesus has the prerogative of ignoring evil.
Yet, with that said, there’s a line that cannot be crossed. Believers don’t have the privilege of embracing fear. When we’re anxious, our identity and calling are impaired. Christians cannot truly be world-changers if we are continually paralyzed by dread.
It may seem preposterous, but believers should walk in freedom and joy—not trepidation. We shouldn’t be entangled in all the silly things that capture American’s attention. Maybe it’s time to stop scrolling on your phone and ask God how he wants you to encourage others.
This goes without saying, but the presence of God should shape the trajectory of our lives, not geo-politics. Those who worship God shouldn’t fear man or be hesitant to live out the gospel.
Even if a horrific event were to transpire, we should find consolation in walking in the mercies of heaven.
The Apostle John had something to say about this: “Perfect love casts out all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love” (1 John 4:18b).
The apostle reminds us that Christians shouldn’t be flustered about anything. Whether we live or die, we remain at peace. It’s impossible to stop those who know the perfect love of God. Not even death can keep them from stepping into their destiny.
